New Delhi: The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has fled her country and sought refuge in India. After landing at Hindon Airbase, she was quickly moved to an undisclosed safe location. Sheikh Hasina, accompanied by her sister Sheikh Rehana, arrived in Delhi on a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft on Monday afternoon. Following her arrival, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior military officials met with her to discuss her safety and plans.

Uncertain Future Plans

While Hasina’s immediate location remains undisclosed for security reasons, sources indicate she might stay in India for the next few days. There is speculation that she may eventually travel to London, where her sister’s daughter, Tulip Siddiqui, a leader of the Labor Party, has recently been appointed as the Economic Secretary of the Treasury and City Minister. However, her plans to go to London are still uncertain, and her team is also exploring other countries for asylum.

Possible Asylum Options

Reports suggest that Hasina’s team is considering multiple countries as potential places of refuge. Finland has emerged as a possible option due to the presence of many of her relatives there. Despite assurances from British authorities regarding non-action over the 400 deaths during protests in Bangladesh, the final decision about her asylum remains unconfirmed.

The Indian government has refrained from issuing any official statements regarding Hasina’s future. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar mentioned that Hasina has discussed her future plans, but detailed information is withheld due to security concerns. Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called for a UN-led investigation into the violence and deaths in Bangladesh. As the situation evolves, Sheikh Hasina’s presence in India and her potential move to another country remain key points of international attention. Her safety and future steps are under careful consideration by multiple stakeholders.
