A 66-year-old Lenovo salesman, Richard Becker, has taken legal action against his former employer after being terminated for an incident in which he urinated in a hotel lobby near Times Square, New York. Becker, who claims he was compelled to relieve himself due to a chronic bladder condition, is seeking $1.5 million in damages from Lenovo’s American subsidiary, alleging wrongful termination and discrimination based on disability.

The lawsuit, filed in New York State Supreme Court, asserts that Becker’s condition, diagnosed in 2016, has been known to his employer for years. Despite this, Lenovo allegedly showed no understanding or compliance with disability laws. According to the court documents, Becker was returning to his hotel after a work-related dinner in February when he found himself in an urgent situation, unable to reach a restroom in time. As a result, he relieved himself in a vestibule on a floor separate from the main lobby.

The suit details how a coworker observed the incident and, acting out of "spite and malice," immediately reported Becker to Lenovo’s Human Resources department. Despite the lack of harm caused by the incident, Becker was swiftly dismissed following what he describes as a "sham" HR investigation, during which he was not even given the opportunity to explain his side of the story.

Becker has been unemployed since the termination and is now accusing Lenovo of violating New York State and New York City human rights laws by discriminating against him due to his medical condition.

However, Lenovo has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing lawsuit.
