Leaked US intelligence: Two classified U.S. intelligence documents have been leaked, allegedly revealing Israel's military preparations for a possible strike on Iran, The New York Times reported. The documents, originating from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), provide insights into Israeli military exercises and their operational readiness for a potential conflict.

One of the leaked documents, titled "Israel: Air Force Continues Preparations for Strike on Iran", outlines detailed Israeli military actions, including air-to-air refueling and search-and-rescue operations. These exercises suggest that Israel is preparing for a retaliatory strike on Iran, following escalating tensions between the two nations.

Documents circulated on pro-Iran Telegram channels

The two classified documents, dated October 15 and 16, were circulated on Telegram by accounts linked to pro-Iran groups. They contain analyses of satellite imagery that show Israeli military exercises, allegedly in preparation for a strike against Iran. These military actions are thought to be a response to an Iranian missile barrage on October 1, which was itself a retaliation for an earlier Israeli attack.

In addition to the reported military exercises, the second document highlights Israel’s movement of munitions and other assets to strategic locations, further indicating its operational readiness. While the documents discuss Israeli military movements, they do not include satellite images, leaving some ambiguity about the full scope of Israel's plans for Iran.

U.S. government's reaction to the leaks

The leak of these sensitive documents has sparked immediate concern within the U.S. government. Officials remain divided on the severity of the exposure. Some have downplayed the issue, stating that the documents do not reveal any new or critical U.S. capabilities. However, others are alarmed by the potential consequences of revealing Israel’s military strategies, particularly in the current climate of rising tensions in the Middle East.

When asked during a recent trip to Germany whether he was aware of Israel's potential strike on Iran, President Joe Biden gave a brief response: "Yes and yes," but declined to offer further details.

Investigation launched to trace source of leak

The origin of the leak remains unknown, but early indications suggest that the documents may have been taken by a lower-level U.S. government employee. In response, the Pentagon, U.S. intelligence agencies, and the FBI have launched a joint investigation to determine how the classified information was leaked and whether more documents might follow.
