King Charles III has issued his first public statement since being diagnosed with cancer, expressing deep gratitude for the outpouring of support and well-wishes.
In a statement on Wednesday, the 75-year-old monarch said, "I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks for the many messages of support and good wishes I have received in recent days."
Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that Charles had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of the disease, prompting him to reschedule some engagements to undergo treatment.
"As all those who have been affected by cancer will know, such kind thoughts are the greatest comfort and encouragement," the king remarked.
Charles added it was heartening to see his diagnosis shine a spotlight on organisations supporting cancer patients in Britain and abroad. Earlier in January, he spent three nights hospitalised for a benign enlarged prostate procedure.

Emphasizing his admiration for medical staff and cancer charities, the king said his personal experience had only deepened his appreciation for their "tireless care and dedication."
While not disclosing details besides ruling out prostate cancer, the Palace said Charles remains "wholly positive" and eager to resume duties soon.
With Charles undergoing treatment and Kate Middleton recovering from surgery, other royals like Prince William and Queen Camilla bear greater responsibility for public engagements.
