‘Keeping an eye on the situation,’ US after Air India flight diverted to Russia

After an Air India flight with a destination of San Francisco made an emergency landing in Russia on Tuesday, the latest information from the United States stated that they are actively following the situation.

Principal Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Vedant Patel said that they are aware of the flight diversion after an engine snag in the Air India bound flight made an emergency landing in Russia.

Notably, Flight AI173 from Delhi to San Francisco was diverted to Magadan in Russia on the evening of June 6, due to a technical snag in the engine. Reportedly, the flight was carrying 216 passengers and a crew of 16 members that landed safely.

In addition, Patel also said currently they are not aware that how many US citizens were there on the flights and they will be sending a replacement aircraft.

Meanwhile, an Air India official said that the planes had developed a technical snag in one of the engines, he further added, “Air India will operate an alternate aircraft from Magadan to San Francisco on June 7, carrying the passengers and crew, who are at present accommodated in local hotels of Magadan. The authorities are extending all cooperation in our effort to ensure that passengers safely reach their destination at the earliest.”
