New Delhi: The online conversation between Donald Trump and Elon Musk, which was scheduled to take place on X (formerly Twitter), experienced a 40-minute delay, making it challenging for many social media users to keep up with the discussion as it unfolded. X owner Elon Musk clarified that the delay was due to a "massive DDoS (distributed denial of services) attack," but the exact nature of the issue remains unclear.
The Kamala Harris campaign team seized the opportunity to mock Trump and Musk, resharing Trump's post from last year that ridiculed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' botched presidential campaign launch on X in May 2023. Trump had written: "Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster."
Several X users mocked Trump, with one writing: "When the troller gets trolled." Another user praised the Harris campaign team, saying: "I am in no universe voting for Harris, but her social media team deserve an Olympic gold." Other users chimed in, with one saying "Oh my God" and another quipping, "Now that is funny."
Despite giving up on his X account since Musk restored it in November 2022, Trump consented to be interviewed on the platform. Following the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, Trump was prohibited from using Twitter amid concerns that he might use the platform to encourage his supporters to carry out similar acts of violence. Trump later created Truth Social, where he regularly posts.
