In a strange case out of Japan, a 34-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglarizing a woman's apartment to steal her underwear. Reports say the suspect had initially noticed the woman serving at a coffee shop and was smitten. The obsession had him searching out her home and eventually breaking into it to pilfer her underwear.

Suspect arrested and interrogated

According to Japanese news site The Mainichi, Ryota Miyahara, who lives in Tokyo's Adachi Ward, was arrested on February 19 by authorities. In response to why he did what he did, Miyahara said he simply wanted to know the color and kind of underwear the woman was wearing. Miyahara also claimed he did not intend to steal.

The probe disclosed that the suspect had burglarized the woman's house a minimum of ten times. He allegedly spent hours in the house, rummaging through her belongings, viewing television, and even trying to steal her lingerie. Police further found that Miyahara had duplicate keys for a number of women's homes, and they were concerned with potential similar crimes.

Break-in details and police findings

Totuska Police Station authorities reported that Miyahara illegally entered the woman's residence on December 31, 2024. He purportedly searched her clothes and other items with intent to steal her undergarments. In contrast, Miyahara claimed he had no criminal intent and was merely interested in the woman's way of life and cleanliness of her residence.

The authorities are still investigating if Miyahara has committed offenses of the same nature in other places. The case has raised discussions regarding privacy and security, with people calling for strict measures to be put in place.
