On Friday, President Joe Biden appointed Neera Tanden, an Indian-American, as his Domestic Policy Advisor. He also noted that Tanden has 25 years of experience in public policy, has worked under three Presidents, and was in charge of one of the largest think tanks in the country for almost 10 years.Biden acknowledged that Tanden played an important role in designing the Affordable Care Act and shaping other key domestic policies that align with his agenda, such as clean energy subsidies and sensible gun reform. He also mentioned that Tanden had firsthand experience with some of the critical programs that she will oversee as the Domestic Policy Advisor. Biden expressed his confidence that Tandens extensive experience and personal insights will serve his administration and the American people well. He also expressed his eagerness to work closely with her in her new role.Tanden has worked in various capacities in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, including on presidential campaigns and think tanks. Until recently, she served as the President and CEO of the Center for American Progress and the Center for American Progress Action Fund.Tanden worked in the White House as part of President Obamas health reform team, serving as a senior advisor for health reform at the Department of Health and Human Services.Before her role as Senior Advisor to President Biden and Staff Secretary, Tanden held various positions in different administrations and campaigns. She was the director of domestic policy for the Obama-Biden presidential campaign and served as policy director for the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. In addition, Tanden was a senior advisor to the Chancellor of the New York City Schools and held positions in the Clinton White House, including Associate Director for Domestic Policy and Senior Policy Advisor to the First Lady.Tanden earned her Bachelor of Science degree from UCLA and her Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School.The President also made two other staffing announcements, revealing that Stefanie Feldman will take on the role of Assistant to the President and Staff Secretary, while Zayn Siddique will be elevated to the position of Principal Deputy of the Domestic Policy Council.
