Ex-Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad, known for his frequent outbursts against India, is again hitting headlines for calling out Indian cricket team for not coming to Pakistan for Asia Cup. He said that the Pakistani cricket team should also not visit India for the upcoming One Day International World Cup.

In a tweet by a Pakistan media firm, Miandad is seen addressing a group of reporters, where he discusses the upcoming World Cup schedule.

Why is Javed Miandad lashing out against India?

Miandad, who is known in cricketing circles for his explosive commentary on the Indo-Pak cricketing relations, launched an attack on the Indian cricketing team. He said that while the Pakistani team has travelled to India twice (2012 and 2016), their opponents have not returned the courtesy.

“Pakistan has been to India in 2012 and even in 2016 now it is their turn to come here.”

The last time the Indian team travelled to Pakistan was in 2008, for the 50-over Asia Cup tournament. Since then, multiple geo-political troubles have brought bilateral relations to a nadir, and this has affected cricketing relations as well.

Not one to mince his words, Miandad has particularly stinging words about the topic. “Pakistan’s cricket is better than India’s. They can go to hell if they do not want to come here, we don’t care,” Miandad said.

This outburst from the former captain of Pakistan comes in light of the recent controversy regarding the recent Asia Cup hosting plan. While Pakistan was supposed to host the event exclusively, BCCI objected to sending the team to Pakistan, citing security concerns. After several rounds of negotiations, the BCCI and Asian Cricket Council agreed on a hybrid plan, where the first four matches will be played in Pakistan, and the rest will be played in Sri Lanka.

Miandad also had choice words regarding the Indian Prime Minister, whom he blamed for the deteriorating bilateral relationship between the neighbours. He claimed that “[Narendra] Modi has destroyed cricket alongside Bharat.”

India is scheduled to host the ODI World Cup 2023, with the highly-anticipated India-Pakistan clash to be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on 15th October.
