Jaishankar in Iran: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, currently on a two-day visit to Iran, highlighted the "visible humanitarian crisis" in the Middle East, specifically addressing the 100-day-long conflict in Gaza. Emphasizing the need to tackle the crisis urgently, Jaishankar also stressed the significance of "avoiding escalatory actions."
In a joint press conference with Iranian counterpart H Amir-Abdollahian, the ministers engaged in "wide-ranging" bilateral discussions covering various aspects, including India's long-term involvement with the Chabahar port and the INSTC connectivity project.
Jaishankar outlined the importance of addressing threats to maritime shipping in the region promptly. The discussions delved into pressing regional issues, including the situations in Gaza, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and BRICS cooperation.
Expressing India's unwavering stance against terrorism, Jaishankar highlighted the nation's commitment to addressing the humanitarian aspects of the crisis, with a particular focus on the impact on women and children.
Noting the visible humanitarian crisis, Jaishankar urged the establishment of sustainable humanitarian corridors, emphasizing the need for international collaboration. He acknowledged India's contribution to relief efforts, delivering shipments of aid to Gaza.
On the issue of Palestine, Jaishankar reiterated India's steadfast support for a two-state solution, ensuring the Palestinian people's freedom within secure borders.
In the joint press conference, Jaishankar stressed the imperative for all parties to "avoid provocative and escalatory actions" and promote dialogue and diplomacy as a means to resolve conflicts.
Amidst the 100th day of the Gaza conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's strong statement raised concerns. However, Jaishankar's emphasis on diplomatic solutions and international collaboration remains at the forefront.
