Jaishankar Highlights Special Measures to Boost India-China Ties

India-China Relations : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said India and China are striving to reset ties after the tensions over the clashes in the Galwan Valley in 2020 as strained relations will not benefit either side. In a dialogue session organised by leading think-tank Asia Society, Jaishankar said there may be differences between India and China even in the near future, but they should not become disputes.

What did the Foreign Minister say while referring to the clashes in Galwan Valley?
Referring to the clashes in the Galwan Valley, the foreign minister said what happened in 2020 was "really very regrettable for the relationship." "It was not just a confrontation, it was a disregard for written agreements... a departure from the terms that were agreed upon," he said in a session moderated by Kyung-wha Kang, president and CEO of the Asia Society and former South Korean foreign minister.

India-China Relations see fresh hope

The Foreign Minister said, "We are working on various aspects of it. I have met my (Chinese) counterpart several times, my other senior colleagues have also met him."

Jaishankar said- both countries are having 'very active' and 'intense' discussions
On India-US trade, Jaishankar said the two countries are having "very active" and "intensive" discussions. The world is eagerly awaiting US President Donald Trump's tariffs, which will come into effect from April 2. "There are very active and intensive discussions going on at the moment on trade," Jaishankar said.

India-China Relationship Revival

After talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trump in Washington last month, the two sides announced initial negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by 2025. Jaishankar said there has been a very open discussion on the trade issue and this is the result of the decision by Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump to have a bilateral trade agreement by this year.
