In a shocking announcement, Italian Prime Minister Geogia Meloni said that she was separating from her longtime husband Andrea Giambruno on Friday. Giambruno, who is a television Journalist had drawn a lot of criticism for his sexist comments made on air.

Meloni made the announcement on X(Twitter) and said that her relationship of over 10 years with Giambruno has come to an end.

She wrote “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost ten years, ends here. I thank him for the wonderful years we spent together, for the difficulties we went through, and for giving me the most important thing in my life, which is our daughter Geneva.”

“Our roads have long been divided, and it’s time to realize it. I will defend who we were, I will defend our friendship, and I will defend, at all costs, a seven-year-old who loves her mother and father, the way I could not love mine”, Meloni added

“Nothing more to say about this one. Ps. all those who hoped to weaken me by hitting me in the house should know that as much as the drop may hope to dig out the stone, the stone remains a stone and the drop is just water,” the 46-year-old Italian Prime Minister said in the end.

PM Meloni’s husband, Andrea Giambruno, is a television presenter at a news channel in Italy and was seen making advances at a female colleague. He was also seen using foul language in the programme.

The TV journalist also found himself amid controversy after he started saying victim blaming comments following a gang rape case. The couple has a daughter who is around seven years old.

Born in Rome in 1977, Meloni was 15 when she joined the youth wing of the Italian Social Movement (MSI). She met Giambruno, who was born in Milan in 1981, in 2015 when he was working as a writer for a TV show on which Meloni appeared.
