World News: On Monday, a senior Hamas leader, Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin, was killed along with his family in an Israeli airstrike targeting their home in a Palestinian refugee camp in Tyre, southern Lebanon. The strike also claimed the lives of his wife, son, and daughter. This is part of Israel’s ongoing military operations in the region aimed at neutralizing threats posed by militant groups.
In addition to Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) reported that three of its members were killed in a separate Israeli strike on the upper floor of an apartment building in Beirut’s Kola district. This marked the first Israeli strike within Beirut's city limits.
Following the recent assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Israel has escalated its military actions in Lebanon, targeting areas linked to Hezbollah and Hamas. Among those killed were Nabil Kaouk, Hezbollah’s deputy head of the Central Council, and senior commander Ali Karaki, both of whom were slain in airstrikes alongside Nasrallah. Israel has vowed to continue its military operations until northern Israel is deemed safe.
The Israeli airstrikes have killed nearly 1,000 people and wounded over 6,000 across Lebanon. The country’s Prime Minister Najib Mitaki described the displacement of around 250,000 people as the “largest disaster” in Lebanon’s history. Many are seeking refuge in shelters, but resources are scarce. “One of the biggest challenges is that the government doesn’t have the means to equip the shelters,” said Laila Al Amine, director for Lebanon at Mercy Corps. Meanwhile, Israel also conducted strikes in Yemen, targeting Houthi rebels in Hodeidah after missile attacks from the rebel group.
