In a series of precise strikes, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, eliminating key figures in the terrorist organization. Among those killed were Muhammad Ali Ismail, the Commander of Hezbollah’s Missile Unit in southern Lebanon, and his deputy, Hussein Ahmad Ismail. Both were involved in orchestrating attacks against Israel, including the recent firing of rockets and the launch of a surface-to-surface missile targeting central Israel.

This operation follows the earlier elimination of Ibrahim Muhammad Qabisi, the Head of Hezbollah’s Missiles and Rockets Force, along with other senior commanders. These targeted strikes were carried out based on accurate intelligence gathered by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

The IDF confirmed the ongoing strikes in a statement posted on X, saying, "Following precise IDF intelligence, the IAF is currently conducting strikes on strategic terrorist targets belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in the area of Beirut."
Hezbollah assets targeted in Beirut

The IDF provided details of the targets hit in Beirut, including weapons production facilities, advanced weapon storage buildings, and key command centers of Hezbollah. In a stern warning to the residents of Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut, Israel urged civilians to distance themselves from Hezbollah assets and facilities, emphasizing that the war is with Hezbollah, not with the Lebanese people.

"The IDF calls on the residents of Dahieh to move away from Hezbollah assets. Hezbollah has embedded weapons within civilian areas, putting lives at risk to harm Israeli civilians. Our conflict is with Hezbollah, not the people of Lebanon," the IDF statement read.

International response and US involvement

Amid the escalating conflict, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III confirmed that the United States was not involved in the operation. He held a phone call with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, reiterating that the US had no prior knowledge of the strike. Austin emphasized the importance of avoiding all-out war, while countries around the world have called for a ceasefire and a return to peace talks.
