Israel attacks on Syria and Lebanon (X/@cvetko35)
Israel launched a fatal series of raids in central Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon and killed at least 40 people and injured many others. According to the Israeli military, the raids were a response to Hamas's refusal to free Israeli captives.
The Gaza Strip was most affected, with bombardments targeting areas around the urban refugee camp of Bureij. One of the schools occupied as a displaced Palestinian shelter was also shelled, killing a 52-year-old man and his 16-year-old nephew. A third Bureij attack killed three men, whom the Israeli military claimed were attempting to detonate an explosive device.

In a gesture that has heightened the humanitarian emergency in Gaza, Israel has severed key supplies, including food, medication, and gas, to the strip for two weeks. The Israeli administration insists that Hamas approve changes to their ceasefire agreement.
Gaza attacks were not an isolated affair. Israeli aircraft also bombed portions of southern Syria and Lebanon and killed at least 10 people. The Israeli army claimed it had struck the military command centers, weapon-storage and vehicle-mounted positions of Assad's forces inside Syria, as well as those of Hezbollah warriors in Lebanon.
Hamas blamed Israel for breaking their truce and threatened that the air raids put the lives of Israeli hostages at risk. The crisis remains under stress as negotiators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States tried to forge a long-lasting truce.
