Amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine war, the death toll has soared to 1,100 people after a surprise attack by Hamas militants on Sunday. They launched over 5,000 rockets from Gaza into Israel and the Israel Defence Forces launched several strikes into Gaza in retaliation, naming it ‘Operation Iron Swords’. The Israeli government has declared that they are in a “state of war” after 50 years yesterday. The Hamas terrorists have so far kidnapped and killed scores of civilians as Israel embarks on a “long and difficult war.”

On Sunday, hundreds of Israelis gathered at a central police station, seeking information about their missing family members. Over 100 people have been captured by Hamas terrorists and held as hostages in Gaza, according to the Israeli government. However, the exact number of missing persons is still yet to be known.

Here are top 10 developments in Israel-Palestine war:

  • The bloody conflict between the Israeli military and the Palestine militant group Hamas spread its arms across multiple areas of Israel on the second day of the war. At least 700 Israelis, including soldiers, have been killed and more than 1,900 injured in Israel after one of the deadliest attacks on the country. Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, there were more than 413 deaths and about 2,300 wounded after Israel’s counterattack, bringing the total number of deaths to over 1,000.
  • Apart from Hamas, the Lebanese Islamist group Hezbollah carried out mortal shelling, targeting Israeli posts in northern Israel on Sunday. In response, the Israeli military attacked with artillery strikes into Lebanon and conducted a drone attack on a Hezbollah post near the border. However, the situation remains tense in this region.
  • Islamic Jihad chief Ziad al-Nakhala said that his faction was holding captive more than 30 of the Israelis who were abducted in the Gaza Strip since Saturday’s attack.
  • Meanwhile, numerous members of the UN Security Council denounced Hamas over its massive assault on Israel but the United States regretted the lack of unanimity.
  • As many Islamic countries supported Hamas’ move, a police official in Egypt’s Alexandria city opened fire on a group of Israeli tourists, resulting in the deaths of at least two Israelis and one Egyptian guide. According to media reports, another person was injured in the attack, which unfolded at the historic Pompey’s Pillar site in Alexandria. Security forces cordoned off the area, and the suspected assailant was arrested.
  • Thailand’s Foreign Ministry has claimed that 11 of its citizens have been captured by the Hamas terrorists. It is suspected that they might have shifted to Gaza. “They are innocent and have nothing to do with any conflict,” Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin was quoted as saying by the Bangkok Post.
  • During this conflict, a British citizen has also been reported missing after an attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on a music festival near Gaza, according to Israel’s embassy in the United Kingdom.
  • According to CNN, as many as three Americans have been killed following an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel. France’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of a French citizen and Ukraine’s foreign ministry said that two of its citizens died in Israel, as per a report by AFP news agency.
  • At least 10 Nepali students have been killed, an official from the Nepal Embassy in Israel told news agency ANI.
  • Extending its support to Israel, the United States said that it would send extra equipment and supplies, including weapons, to support the Israel Defense Forces. President Joe Biden assured Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that more assistance is on its way. In addition, the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, expressed strong support for Israel to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following the recent attacks by Hamas.
