The spokesperson for Hamas interior ministry Eyad Al-Bozom said that Israel has not resumed water supplies for Gaza and residents are compelled to drink unhealthy water, posing a serious health crisis of the citizens.

This comes after White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan said Israeli officials informed him that water pipes in southern Gaza have been turned back on.

According to Reuters, Eyad Al-Bozom said, “I have been in touch with my Israeli counterparts just within the last hour who reported to me that they have, in fact, turned the water pipe back on in southern Gaza”.

Total blockade in Gaza

Amid the Israel-Hamas Conflict, Gaza is suffering water crisis after Israel sieged the water supply since the war broke out last weekend. The siege came as the part of ‘total blockade’ against Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. These included a ban on food and fuel.

Meanwhile, neighbouring country Egypt’s foreign minister Sameh Shoukry accused Israel that they not cooperating with delivery of aid into the war affected areas in Gaza and evacuations of foreign passport holders in the area. This led to the blockage of hundreds of tonnes of supplies. The Rafah crossing is not closed yet but is inoperable due to Israeli air strikes on the Gaza strip.

Israel launched an intense bombardment and blockade in retaliation for an assault by the Hamas leading more than 2 million Gaza residents under siege.

However reports claimed that a ceasefire was aggred in place in southern Gaza for some hours to facilitate aid and evacuations at Rafah, while Israel denied it saying, “There is currently no truce and humanitarian aid in Gaza in exchange for getting foreigners out”.
