Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, Israel strikes Syria’s two main airports on Thursday. According to Syrian state television, this is the first such attack since Hamas’ assault on Israel at the weekend that triggered fierce fighting among them.

The state television reported on a messaging platform, Telegram, “Israeli aggression targets Damascus and Aleppo airports”, without providing additional details of the event.

Ralier, Israeli strikes have repeatedly caused the grounding of flights at the airports in the capital Damascus, and Aleppo, which are under the control of the government of Syria.

Israel strikes after Hamas killed over 1,000 civilians

The latest strikes came on the sixth day as Hamas and Israel traded heavily after hundreds of Hamas gunmen entered Israel from the Gaza border on Saturday and killed more than 1,000 civilians.

The latest attack came as the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Israel, and hours after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad to discuss Arab and Islamic countries to cooperate in confronting Israel.

Syria has been facing a war for more than a decade and Israel has launched hundreds of air strikes on its northern neighbor country, targeting Iran-backed forces and Hezbollah including Syrian army positions.

Israel has repeatedly said it would not allow Iran to expand its footprint there, which also supports Bashar al-Assad’s government.

On Saturday, Iran which is a major supporter of Hamas, celebrated Hamas’ assault on Isreal although, Iran clarified it was not involved in it.
