The woman hugged Biden when they met, and the president thanked her for defending the nation.The 65-year-old retired woman named Rachel Edri was the one who used tea and cookies to divert Hamas operatives. Five Hamas terrorists kept Edri prisoner at gunpoint in her house for about 20 hours. She engaged the militants in conversation and provided them with Moroccan cookies, tea, and canned pineapple to keep them occupied until Israeli security officers arrived and apprehended the attackers.On October 7, Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip invaded Israel and went on a violent rampage throughout the nation. Rachel and her 68-year-old husband David were caught in the crossfire.While speaking to ABC News, Rachel and David described how they managed to survive the long 20-hour using their tricks and wits, which included her cooking for her captors and keeping them busy in cookies and coffee and also asking for Arabic lessons.“I knew that if they are hungry, they are angry,” Rachel told ABC News.“I told him I had to inject insulin, trying to distract them from the fact I have children who are police officers … I offered them drinks: Coke Zero, water,” she said.Narrating how she joked around the captors, she said, “Ill teach you Hebrew and youll teach me Arabic,”“I understood that it was a matter of life and death.”At last, the couple was finally rescued by the SWAT team after midnight.
