Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that recent attacks took place near the town of Kfar Kila. Israeli forces are conducting a "search operation" from their base in Metula, a town located on the northern side of the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories.

The attacks have endangered civilian lives and caused significant fires in the region. Israel continues to use white phosphorus munitions in southern Lebanon, causing lasting damage and forcing villagers to flee.

A series of reports indicate that white phosphorus attacks are "putting civilians at grave risk" and "contributing to displacement." A recent investigation by Qatar-based Al Jazeera found that Israel dropped 117 phosphoric bombs on southern Lebanon, affecting at least 32 towns and villages between October and March. The affected area covers nearly the entirety of Lebanon's 100 km southern border with the occupied territories. This repeated use of white phosphorus has drawn condemnation from international humanitarian organisations.

Calls for US Arms Suspension

On March 19, Oxfam called on the administration of US President Joe Biden to "immediately suspend arms transfers to Israel." A Washington Post investigation in December reported that Israel used US-supplied white phosphorus munitions in an October attack in southern Lebanon. Lot production codes on the shells matched those used by the US military, indicating they were produced in Louisiana and Arkansas in 1989 and 1992.

Lebanon has been urged to file a declaration with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to enable an investigation and prosecution of the Israeli regime.

Ongoing Clashes and Rising Death Toll

Tensions remain high along Lebanon’s southern border, where the Hezbollah resistance movement is engaged in intense clashes with Israeli forces. Hezbollah has been carrying out almost daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions in retaliation for the regime’s aggression against Lebanon and in solidarity with Palestinians.

The conflict in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 37,600 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. On the Lebanese border, at least 455 people, including more than 80 civilians, have been killed.
