Bangladesh Violence Against Women: Statistics of violence against women in Bangladesh have exposed the grim reality of the country under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. The whole world is celebrating International Women's Day on Saturday (March 8, 2025), but the situation in Bangladesh is disturbing. Fauzia Moslem, President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, said, "Society is moving towards anarchy, where criminal impunity is increasing. Failure of law enforcement, lack of accountability is empowering criminals."

Increase in crimes against women

Speaking to leading Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, she said that if the entire society does not become aware, it will be very difficult to deal with this crisis. Fauzia Moslem said, "Justice has been replaced by dialogue, which is giving more power to those who oppose women's rights and those who exploit the system."

The law and order situation in the country has been very bad since the change of power last August. Crimes against women have also increased. A report by the Dhaka-based Human Rights Cultural Foundation (MSF) showed that 295 incidents of violence against women and children were recorded in February 2025, 24 more than in January.

Islamic fundamentalists are carrying out incidents

According to the country's leading daily The Dhaka Tribune, Islamic fundamentalist groups, terrorists and other extremist elements play a clear role in these incidents, posing a serious threat to the safety of women. A total of 21 women from various professions told local media that they had faced sexual harassment outside the house in the last three months. These women, aged between 19 and 48 years, living in Dhaka, reported several cases of street harassment. They also said that they fear that they may become the target of the mob if they protest.

85 women were raped in two months

According to Dhaka-based human rights organization Ain O Salish Kendra, 46 women were raped in the country in February 2025. The victims were aged 22-18 years. In January 2025, this number was 39, including 15 minors. Bangladesh has seen a surge in protests in recent months. There is a growing demand for the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who many consider responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

After the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus came to power in Bangladesh, several cases of sexual violence against women have been reported. According to local media reports, the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad had earlier condemned the rising incidents of crime against women and questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement in Bangladesh.
