PM Modi expresses grief on death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in chopper crash

Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday has expressed grief on the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who lost his life after his chopper got crashed on Saunday. Taking it to his official X handle, PM Modi mentioned, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution to strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”


Everyone including Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has reported to be dead in the helicopter crash. A wreckage of the helicopter has been found at the accident site.

According to the sources, the chopper of the Iran’s Red Crescent chief Ebrahim Raisi not found in a good condition on Monday. As per Iranian authorities, the rescue teams have moved towards the crashed helicopter after a Turkish drone Akinci identified a heat source in the region.

As per sources, all the passengers including Foreign Minister  Hossein Amir Abdollahian in the helicopter have reported to be dead.

Ibrahim Raisi was on a visit to East Azerbaijan province of Iran. Where he was returning after inaugurating a dam, the helicopter of his convoy crashed near Julfa city, located on the border of Azerbaijan, about 600 kilometers north-west of Iran's capital Tehran.
