Iran lashed out at the United States and Britain's airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, urging both nations to "stop the war against Yemen immediately," on Monday. Tensions have been simmering since the Houthi attacks on Red Sea vessels, allegedly in support of Palestinians during the recent Israel-Hamas war. US and UK airstrikes on Houthi targets followed, drawing condemnation from Iran. Tehran had previously denounced the strikes as "arbitrary" and a violation of international law.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian issued a warning, stating, "We warn America and Britain to stop the war against Yemen immediately." He further called for an end to the Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza, declaring that the Houthis "will block Israeli ships or ships bound for Israeli ports" as long as the war continues.

Washington accuses Iran of being 'deeply involved'

The backdrop to this conflict is the devastating Israel-Hamas war, which resulted in thousands of deaths on both sides. The Houthis' actions in the Red Sea have disrupted the vital trade route, triggering regional tensions. Washington has accused Iran of being 'deeply involved' in the Houthi attacks, a claim vehemently denied by Tehran. The UK has also labeled Iran a 'malign actor in the region.'

Iran's Prez supports 'resistance groups'

Adding fuel to the fire, Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi declared support for 'resistance groups,' while emphasizing their independence in decision-making. This statement further complicates the situation, suggesting Iran's potential influence on the Houthis without direct responsibility for their actions.

What next?

The fears of a wider conflict are looming as the international community watches anxiously while tensions boil in the Red Sea.
