A 59-year-old Indian-American man tragically lost his life in Oklahoma following an assault. The incident occurred around 10 pm on June 22, when police were summoned to a motel parking lot near Interstate 40 and Meridian Avenue.
The victim, Hemant Mistry, was identified as the manager of the motel. Originally from Gujarat, India, Mistry confronted the assailant, 41-year-old Richard Lewis, asking him to vacate the property. This confrontation led to Mistry being punched in the face by Lewis.
Police reports indicate that Mistry lost consciousness after the assault. He was quickly transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries, passing away at approximately 7:40 pm on June 23.
Richard Lewis was apprehended the following day at a hotel in the 1900 block of S Meridian Avenue. He is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at the Oklahoma County jail, facing charges of aggravated assault and battery.
The Oklahoma City police have yet to clarify the exact reasons why Mistry asked Lewis to leave the property. It has been confirmed that Lewis was resistant to vacating the premises, leading to the fatal altercation.
