Indian national loses life in Queensland due to extreme flooding

An Indian national lost her life, today on Feb 16, in Queensland, Australia due to the extreme flooding that has occurred in the region. Severe thunderstorms and rain caused the woman to get trapped in her car which was found partly submerged in water as reported by police officials.

The name of the woman has not been disclosed by the Indian Commission as of now. However, she is identified to be a 28-year-old. The Indian High Commission in Canberra has conveyed their condolences to the victim's family and are providing assistance to them. The Queensland police has stated that the matter is under investigation and have requested people to provide any information that can shed light on the investigation.

The police have now alerted the public informing them that "Due to recent weather events, flooding is continuing to impact extensive road networks across the Mount Isa district. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution, and to never enter flood waters."

A severe thunderstorm alert has been issued by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology for parts of southeast Queensland. This includes heavy rainfall warnings across Redland City, Logan, and parts of Brisbane. As per the latest updates by the bureau, an extreme thunderstorm is likely to result in heavy rainfall that can cause flash flooding in some regions of the state.
