Pro-Khalistan Protest Outside Indian High Commission In Londo (X/ANI)
The High Commission of India in the UK commemorated India's 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm at India House, London. The celebration brought together a diverse group of dignitaries, members of the Indian diaspora, and other distinguished guests, all united to honor India's rich cultural heritage and democratic values.
The event began with the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian tricolour, accompanied by the national anthem. The High Commissioner of India addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech, reflecting on India's democratic journey, the strengthening India-UK partnership, and the invaluable contributions of the Indian diaspora to both nations.
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural program that showcased India’s artistic diversity. Notable performances included soulful renditions of patriotic songs by two singers from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2024, including the season’s winner. Attendees were enthralled by traditional dance performances representing India’s regions, from Bharatanatyam to Bhangra and Garba, all accompanied by live music that added energy to the event.
Attendees expressed their excitement about participating in the grand event. Bhavika Maheshwari, a motivational speaker, remarked, "Even though I’m far from India, celebrating Republic Day here feels special. The performances, recognition of achievers, and the unity displayed make me proud." Surya, an economics student, shared, "It’s an honor to celebrate Republic Day at the High Commission, keeping alive the traditions I’ve always cherished with my family."
Amid the celebrations, a protest by Khalistani activists unfolded outside India House. Demonstrators carried banners and chanted slogans critical of the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the creation of a separate Sikh state. In response, members of the Indian diaspora countered with patriotic slogans like "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Vande Mataram," waving the tricolour and expressing solidarity with India’s unity.

A significant police presence ensured the demonstrations remained peaceful, preventing any escalation. Indian supporters denounced the protest, stating it disrespected the occasion’s significance. "Nobody can destroy India’s unity, culture, or glory," one supporter affirmed.
As India marked its 76th Republic Day, embassies worldwide extended warm wishes, acknowledging India’s achievements and its role in fostering global partnerships. Messages poured in from nations like the U.S., France, South Africa, the UAE, Russia, and China, highlighting India’s growing influence on the global stage.
The celebration at India House concluded with an informal gathering where attendees enjoyed Indian delicacies, symbolizing unity and pride among the community abroad.
