Research scientist and Indian-American Darshana Patel has declared her candidature for the California State Assembly District 76 in 2024.

Darshana Patel, 48, is running for the North County seat that Brian Maienschein will be leaving once his term expires in 2024. As the daughter of immigrants who toiled to realise the American Dream, Patel, a community leader and Democrat, said, “I know the difficulties that families can encounter during trying times.

Patel, who was moved to California when she was teen said, “I am running for State Assembly because I want to make sure that every person has the opportunity to succeed and thrive, and because I can use my experience as a scientist, elected school board member, and civic leader to make a difference in their lives.”

When the district was struggling because of financial mismanagement and criminal robbery, she was elected to the Poway Unifoed Board and helped to restore fiscal responsibility.

Darshana Patel serves as president of the San Diego County School Boards Association and the California Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander American Affairs, apart from the responsibility of the school board.

The Rancho Penasquitos Planning Board, Rancho Penasquitos Town Council, Park Village Elementary School PTA and Education Foundation Boardare among the places where she has held the executive positions.

She lives with her husband, and their three daughters in San Diego. She obtained her Occidental College BA in Biochemistry and her University of California, Irvine PhD in Biophysics.

Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris, who belongs to the Democratic Party, is the first woman vice president of the United States and the highest-ranking female official in US history, as well as the first African American and first Asian American vice president. According to reports, she said if Joe Biden runs for the 2024 elections, she’ll join him in the race. Harris had served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021.

Nikki Haley

Nikki Haley became South Carolina’s first female and Asian governor in 2010, and she was re-elected in 2014. She has spent six years in the South Carolina legislature, prior to becoming South Carolina Governor.

Nikki Haley is the Republican Party’s first Indian American presidential candidate. She took the stage as the former governor of South Carolina and US ambassador to the United Nations. She introduced herself as the proud daughter of Indian immigrants, promising the Republican Party a brighter future.

Former President Donald Trump appointed Nikki Haley as the United States’ 29th ambassador to the United Nations. She is now the Republican Party’s first direct opponent of Trump.

Vivek Ramaswamy

The second Indian-American to declare his candidature for president in 2024 is Vivek Ramaswamy. He declares his candidature by promising to “put merit back” and stop reliance on China. He has joined the Republican Party’s presidential race, becoming the second member of the community after Nikki Haley. In a live interview, Ramaswamy, whose parents immigrated to the US from Kerala and who worked at a General Electric factory in Ohio, declared his candidature for president.

Ro Khanna

Ro Khanna is an Indian-American Congressman from California, belonging to the Democratic Party. He is the youngest of the four Indian-American lawmakers in US House of Representatives. According to reports it is said that Khanna is keeping his options open for the 2024 presidential race if President Biden decides not to run. Khanna, however, denied that he would run for the White House.
