Indian accused in Pannun murder plot sent to US ahead of Jake Sullivan visit in India today

New Delhi: Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national accused in the murder conspiracy of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, has been extradited to the United States from the Czech Republic, according to reports from Reuters citing the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and a confidential source.

Nikhil Gupta accused of murder 

Gupta, 52, is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a federal administrative detention facility, as indicated by a search on the Bureau of Prisons website. Reuters' anonymous source further confirmed Gupta's extradition and his detention in Brooklyn.

Czech court dismissed Gupta's appeal

Last month, a Czech court dismissed Gupta's appeal to avoid extradition, allowing the Czech justice minister to proceed with the handover to US authorities.

The arrest of Nikhil Gupta in the Czech Republic on June 30 last year stemmed from US allegations linking him to a conspiracy to arrange the assassination of Pannun. US federal prosecutors claim Gupta was involved in a plot to hire a hitman for the killing, allegedly under the direction of an Indian government official.

US National Security Advisor in New Delhi today 

Gupta's extradition coincides with the upcoming visit of US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to New Delhi for the annual ICET dialogue. It is anticipated that Sullivan will discuss this sensitive matter with his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval.
