New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk today, focusing on bolstering bilateral relations between India and Poland. This meeting marks a historic moment, as it is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years.

PM Modi arrived in Poland on Wednesday, commencing his two-nation tour, which will also take him to Kyiv, Ukraine. Upon his arrival, PM Modi was greeted with a ceremonial red carpet reception at the Chancellery in Warsaw, signifying the importance of this diplomatic engagement.

External affairs highlight the situation

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the significance of this visit in a statement. "A new landmark in the India-Poland partnership! PM @narendramodi was warmly received by PM @donaldtusk of Poland at the Federal Chancellery in Warsaw and accorded a ceremonial welcome," stated MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X. The Polish Prime Minister also expressed his enthusiasm for this visit, posting on X, “Finally. After 45 years! Prime Minister @narendramodi, good to see you in Warsaw.”

In addition to his discussions with Donald Tusk, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with President Andrzej Sebastian Duda during his stay in Poland. The talks are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, defense, and cultural exchanges.

The leaders emphasized the growing significance of their bilateral relationship, officially elevating it to a strategic partnership.

PM Modi’s visit to Poland is historically significant as it marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years. He was warmly welcomed with a ceremonial reception at the Federal Chancellery. Donald Tusk expressed his delight, stating, "This is a very important day for both of our countries. It is a great honor for us to host the Prime Minister of India. This visit is evidence that our relations are improving and hold great importance for the entire region."

The leaders discussed various areas of cooperation, including economic growth, defense, and cultural exchanges. PM Modi highlighted shared democratic values and emphasized collaboration in sectors such as clean energy, urban development, and food processing. “We want Polish companies to be associated with the mega food park being built in India,” Modi said. He also invited Polish enterprises to participate in initiatives like Make in India and Make for the World.
