Amid troubled India-Canada bilateral relationship, the Indian government on Tuesday rejected all the allegations put forward by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the possible involvement of India in the death of the Khalistani leader in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs termed these allegations as ‘absurd ‘and ‘motivated’ in its response to Trudeau’s comment. This development further strains the already troubled relationship between the two nations.

Ministry of External affairs releases official statement

The official statement by MEA states that it rejects all allegations made by the Canadian government and calls it absurd and motivated, as per media reports.

“We have seen and rejected the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister” said the MEA in an official statement.

“Allegations of the Indian government’s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated” the release added.

“Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister to our Prime Minister and were completely rejected,” said the official release.

India-Canada relationship strained amid Khalistani extremism

The official statement further condemns the Canadian government for providing shelter to the Khalistani terrorists and extremists which endangers the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.

“Such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The inaction of the Canadian Government on this matter has been a long-standing and continuing concern,” it says.

The release also mentions about Canadian governments open sympathy for these Khalistani extremists as well and says “The space given in Canada to a range of illegal activities including murders, human trafficking and organised crime is not new.”

“We urge the Government of Canada to take prompt and effective legal action against all anti-India elements operating from their soil,” the MEA further states in the statement.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had India’s involvement in the death of Harshdeep Singh Nijjar, a Khalistani extremist in Canada and said that the Canadian government is investigating the connection between the two during the country’s special parliamentary session on Monday in the Ottawa legislature.

Moreover, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly also said that an Indian diplomat in the country had been expelled on Monday, as per media reports.
