Increasing India-Nepal cooperation in the fields of energy, connectivity, and trade is expected to be the main topic of discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda on Thursday, according to information from the official department.Prachanda stated at a gathering at the Nepalese embassy only hours after touching down in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon for a four-day visit to India that both sides are eager to strengthen overall ties and that several agreements are likely to be firmed following his discussions with Modi.Separately, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval made a phone call to the Nepalese president to discuss a range of India-Nepal relations issues. Vinay Kwatra, the foreign secretary, was also present.Notably, it is Prachandas first bilateral trip after assuming the top office in December 2022. Earlier, the Nepalese Prime Minister asserted that they are committed to strengthening ties between both countries.They stated that one of the top priorities would be to broaden and deepen the cooperation in the electricity sector through new projects.The April 2016 joint vision statement between India and Nepal on cooperation in the power industry is regarded as a turning point, as Nepal has been sending over 450 MW of electricity to India.The India-Nepal development partnership, the main tenet of the bilateral ties, is also likely to be discussed by the two prime ministers.Notably, strengthening the ties between both countries overall will be the focus point of the talks.Uttar Pradeshs First Land Port InaugurationApart from this, PM Narendra Modi with Nepals counterpart will also inaugurate Uttar Pradeshs first land port along the India-Nepal border via video conferencing from New Delhi today.The preparations for the inauguration have been finalised by the senior officials of the ministry. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs Land Port Authority of India has installed integrated checkpoints on the nations international borders to facilitate the smooth transit of both freight and passenger vehicles. Customs, immigration, and other services from the two nations are brought together under one roof at these centres on both sides of the border, facilitating the flow of cargo trucks across the border.The construction of the Rupaidiha Land Port has been built on 115 acres of land and has cost about Rs 200 crore.
