US President Joe Biden addressed the issue regarding his age on Monday during a fundraiser at a Broadway theatre in New York. The 80-year-old is the oldest ever president president in American history. Biden said that he understood a focus on his age as he was running for re-election. He highlights that his age has helped him get experience in dealing with crises like Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic.

US: Biden speaks on his age

According to media reports, Biden addressed a fundraising event at a Broadway theatre in New York where he talked about the concern people have regarding his age, he said that he’s running for re-election because Donald Trump is a danger to US democracy.

He said “A lot of people seem focused on my age. I get it, believe me, I know it more than anyone. I’m running because democracy is at stake because in 2024 democracy is on the ballot once again. And let there be no question: Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy.”

Biden further added that he would not “bow down” to “dictators” and accused Trump of doing so to Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports suggest.

Donald Trump supports Biden

However, Biden received an unexpected support from his rival Donald Trump (77) over his age who said that the Democrat was “not too old” to seek a second term, while quickly adding: “I think he’s incompetent,” in an interview, as per media reports.

Trump also says “Some of the greatest world leaders have been in their 80s, I’m not anywhere very near 80, by the way.”

“And Biden’s not too old,” Donald Trump added. “But I think he’s incompetent, and that’s a bigger problem.”

The American population has been concerned about the President’s old age for quite some time as the American presidential election is scheduled for 2024, with one survey finding that three in four people doubt his ability to last a second term as per reports.
