A strong explosion at a restaurant in Hebei province in China has killed one and injured several on Wednesday. According to the sources, the blast has damaged cars and left large debris in the surrounding area. It is suspected that the blast occurred due to an explosion in a gas cylinder at the eatery.

The incident happened at around 8 am, the local time at Sanhe, a county on the outskirts of Beijing. Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to the hospital. The officials reported that an explosion and fire broke out in a street shop at the intersection of Xueyuan Street and Yingbin Road in Xiaozhanggezhuang village.

The department also informed that the fire had been doused after dispatching 36 vehicles and 154 people to the spot, adding that the rescue work was being carried out. The blast happened just after the closure of high-level government political meetings in Beijing.

Videos posted on the social media platforms revealed dense clouds of gray smoke rising from the explosion location, followed by a large orange fireball. The video clips featured broken building facades, a large number of smashed cars, and glass debris all over the nearby streets. The area appeared to be a battle zone, with several items on fire.

This is not the first time before this also China has witnessed a similar incident which claimed 15 lives and left 44 injured in a fire at a residential building in the eastern city of Nanjing.

In January, dozens died after a fire broke out at a store in the central city of Xinyu after the blast.
