Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu's party secured a "supermajority" in Parliament by winning over 60 seats in Sunday's crucial parliamentary election. This is likely to accelerate the country's shift away from traditional ally India in favour of China. However, on Monday (22 April) China has reacted on Muizzu's win and said that the country would try to strengthen relations with Maldives.
According to news agency PTI report, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Muizzu's party's victory that China is willing to work with Maldives to maintain traditional friendship and enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Is. He said that Beijing aims to further deepen the China-Maldives comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and accelerate it to better benefit the people of both countries.
Maldive's win can make the situation very bad for India and better for China. This could have major defense and security implications as Maldives is strategically located in the Indian Ocean. However, China is thinking to establish a military base in Maldives. China has also made a secret agreement with Maldives for this. According to various reports, China is planning to sign an agreement to set up naval radar station in the Maldives.
The party of anti-India Mohammed Muizzoo, who gave the slogan of 'India Out', has won a big victory in the parliamentary elections held in Maldives. Muizzu's party PNC defeated the opposition party MDP. It is believed that then the people of Maldives have liked the anti-India Muizzu. Party got 66 seats in the elections held on 93 seats.

He had asked Indian soldiers to leave Maldives as soon as he became President. Maldive's president has also tried to move the country away from its traditional "India First" foreign policy and it means it will enhance closer ties with China.
