Russia Ukraine War : Russia and Ukraine said on Wednesday that they have exchanged 175 prisoners each. This is the first time these countries have exchanged such a large number of prisoners since the war between the two countries began three years ago. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, 'We are bringing back soldiers, sergeants and officers who fought for our independence while serving in the Armed Forces, Navy, National Guard, Territorial Defense Forces, etc.'

How important is this exchange before the ceasefire
The Ukrainian leader had earlier said that releasing all prisoners of war and captured civilians would be an important step towards peace and would help restore trust between the two countries. He had repeatedly demanded the exchange of all prisoners. Ukraine has given information about the exchange of prisoners at a time when talks are going on about a temporary ceasefire.

During the conversation with Trump, he had promised to release the prisoners
Shortly after the exchange took place near the northern border of the two warring countries, several families arrived at a hospital in Ukraine's Chernihiv region where the prisoners were to be brought. A few minutes later, several buses pulled up to the hospital complex and soldiers who appeared weak and tired emerged from the vehicles. Their faces lit up as they saw their men inside the complex.

Hundreds Reunited

Russian President Vladimir Putin is believed to have promised to release 23 prisoners during talks with US President Donald Trump about a temporary ceasefire. There was no immediate comment on the reason for the change in the number.

Historic Deal

Petro Yatsenko, head of the press office of Ukraine's Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, said prisoner exchanges require extensive preparation. "These swaps are not sudden events. They require careful planning," he said.
