PM Modi’s state visit to the United States is playing a major role in the field of development and building up the bilateral and military ties between the two nations. In a latest development, General Electric (GE) Aerospace, a subsidiary of General Electric, has announced to co-produce its F414 engines in India. Also, the aerospace firm also signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) on Thursday.

Major milestone for Indo-US defense ties

The agreement will act as a major milestone for the Indo-US bonds amidst PM Modi’s state visit. It will also emphasise the defense cooperation between both nations.

The official press release of the announcement was made by General Electric (GE) Aerospace and came just after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with several senior American business tycoons, executives including H. Lawrence Culp Junior, Chairman and CEO of General Electric, and CEO, General Electric Aerospace.

Historic agreement: CEO H. Lawrence Culp

“This is a historic agreement made possible by our longstanding partnership with India and HAL,” said H. Lawrence Culp, Jr., Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of GE and CEO of GE Aerospace.

“We are proud to play a role in advancing President Biden and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of closer coordination between the two nations. Our F414 engines are unmatched and will offer important economic and national security benefits for both countries as we help our customers produce the highest quality engines to meet the needs of their military fleet,” he added.

What the MoU talks about?

According to the press release, the MoU includes “the potential joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India”. The US Aerospace firm also said that it was still working with the government “to receive the necessary export authorization” regarding the same.

Moreover, it said that the announcement will help in the advancement of GE Aerospace’s previous commitment to build 99 engines for the IAF (Indian Air Force) as a part of the LCA Mk2 program.
