The Israeli military announced on Saturday that Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah has been killed in an airstrike on Beirut. The militant group, backed by Iran, has not yet commented on Nasrallah's condition or confirmed his whereabouts since the bombing.

IDF confirms Nasrallah's elimination

"Hassan Nasrallah is dead," Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani declared on social media platform X. His statement was corroborated by military spokesman Captain David Avraham, who confirmed to AFP that the Hezbollah leader had been "eliminated" following Israeli airstrikes on southern Beirut late Friday.

Hezbollah silent amid uncertainty

An anonymous source close to Hezbollah told AFP that communication with Nasrallah has been lost since Friday evening, following Israel’s claims of his assassination. The source, however, stopped short of confirming Nasrallah’s death, leaving the militant group’s leadership in a cloud of uncertainty.

"Contact with Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been lost since Friday evening," the source said, according to AFP.

Israel intensifies strikes on Hezbollah leaders

The announcement comes after the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of Muhammad Ali Ismail, the commander of Hezbollah’s Missile Unit in southern Lebanon, along with his deputy, Hussein Ahmad Ismail. The duo was reportedly responsible for numerous rocket and missile attacks on Israel, including the recent launch of a surface-to-surface missile targeting central Israel earlier this week.

Israeli strikes also claimed the life of Ibrahim Muhammad Qabisi, head of Hezbollah's Missiles and Rockets Force, as well as several other senior commanders. The Israeli military has vowed to continue its operations against Hezbollah until civilians in northern Israel can return safely to their homes.
