World News: Fawzia Amin Sido, a Yazidi woman who endured a decade of captivity at the hands of ISIS, has bravely recounted the horrifying atrocities she faced during her time with the group. Sido, who was only nine when she was abducted, revealed details that highlight the brutality of her captors.

Atrocities and forced cannibalism

In an interview, Sido described how she and her two brothers were forced to consume what they were told was the meat of Yazidi babies. “They (ISIS) made rice for us and gave us meat to eat with it. It had a weird taste, and some of us had stomach aches afterward,” she recounted. The trauma escalated as the captors displayed gruesome images of beheaded infants, taunting them with the statement, “These are the kids you ate (just) now.”

Further adding to the horror, Sido recalled a traumatic incident where a woman suffered a heart attack and died upon realizing her child had been murdered. “The woman recognized the child because of the baby's hands. They (ISIS) forced us (to eat). But it's very hard to know it happened…it was not in our hands,” she shared.

A survivor's journey

Fawzia Sido is among the many Yazidi women enslaved by ISIS during their reign of terror in 2014. This account serves as a stark confirmation of previous allegations that the group fed human flesh to its captives. Sido was also subjected to repeated sexual enslavement, being ‘sold’ to multiple jihadists, including Abu Amar al-Makdisi, with whom she has two children.

Recently, Sido's harrowing ordeal came to an end when she was rescued from Gaza by the Israeli military in collaboration with the U.S. embassy. While she is now reunited with her family in Iraq, her children remain with al-Makdisi's family in Gaza.
