Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, heaped press on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Make in India policy. President Putin said this while speaking at an event in Moscow on Thursday, as reported by the Russian television network RT.

“Our friends in India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a great friend of Russia, a few years ago presented a concept – Make in India. And it had a visible effect on the Indian economy,” the Russian President said.

Putin used ‘Make in India’ as an example of the kind of indigenous policy that Russia should adopt to promote the development of domestic products and brands in the country.

Russia has been reeling with economic sanctions and the closure of most multi-national companies within its borders ever since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Russian President’s statements come after Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, called Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India, to discuss bilateral ties. This call, which took place on Thursday, was part of an outreach program of Moscow to its allies after an attempted coup by the Wagner group.

The Security Council released a statement that said, “The current issues of Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of security and the prospects for their deepening within the framework of bilateral and multilateral formats were discussed in detail. [Nikolai] Patrushev informed A. Doval about the latest events [Wagner mutiny] in Russia.”
