Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing: Canada arrests another suspect in Khalistani terrorist murder case; Four nabbed so far

India and Canada have been experiencing a sour diplomatic relationship for the few months and this sudden change happened ever since Canada PM Justin Trudeau blamed India for the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Now, Canadian authorities on Saturday arrested a fourth Indian national for his role in the killing of separatist Khalistan Hardeep Singh. This fourth accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh (22). Twenty-two-year-old Amardeep Singh, a resident of Brampton, Surrey, and Abbotsford areas of Canada, has been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar was designated a terrorist by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of India in the year 2020. In June last year, Nijjar was shot dead as soon as he came out of a Gurudwara in Surrey. Six people and two vehicles were involved in the attack. At present, the Canadian police have not provided any evidence of any connection with India, as was being speculated in the Canadian media. Nijjar's murder led to diplomatic tensions between Canada and India with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accusing India of involvement in the murder. However, his claim was rejected by New Delhi.

3 Indians arrested

On the three Indians arrested in Canada in the Nijjar murder case, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that no evidence or information has been given to us in this matter. Canada has informed us about the arrest, but we have not received any formal communication. Asked whether India has granted consular access to the three Indians arrested in the Nijjar murder case, the Ministry of External Affairs said they have not received any request for the same from the Canadian side as the accused have not yet sought consular access. The names and ages of those arrested are Karan Brar (22 years old), Kamalpreet Singh (22 years old) and Karanpreet Singh (28 years old). All three have been charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
