Sri Lanka, in the latest move has allowed the visa-free entry to visitors from seven countries, which includes India too. According to the country's foreign affairs minister, the decision will benefit citizens of seven countries including India, China and Russia, under a pilot project.

The decision was approved by the Sri Lanka Cabinet, minister Ali Sabry said. The minister notified that the pilot project has begun with immediate effect and will continue till March 31, 2024.

Taking to X, Minister Sabry said, "Cabinet approves issuing of free visas to India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia & Thailand with immediate effect as a pilot project till 31 March."

According to the sources, the Ministry of Tourism revealed that a Cabinet Paper had been tabled at the last Cabinet meeting, recommending the issuance of free tourist visas to foreign nationals from five nations who wish to travel to Sri Lanka.

Apart from this, Sri Lanka has also proposed to introduce the e-ticketing for most of the tourist sites in the country in the near future.
