Mia Khalifa, a former adult film actress turned social media activist, recently sparked controversy with her outspoken criticism of the U.S. military. In a now-unavailable video posted to her X account, Khalifa addressed the physical and mental toll war takes on American soldiers. Without directly mentioning current conflicts in Israel or Gaza, her comments aligned with ongoing news of U.S. troop deployments to the Middle East.

Khalifa, whose real name is Sarah Joe Chamoun, opened the video with the provocative statement, "Good morning to everybody who is not in the U.S. military." She went on to suggest that soldiers deployed to foreign conflicts are often neglected by the very country they serve, highlighting how many return with untreated PTSD.

Critique of veterans' care in U.S.

In her pointed remarks, Khalifa mocked the U.S. government's lack of adequate care for returning veterans, particularly criticising the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. She sarcastically noted, "Let’s see how much the VA cares about you. They’re going to tell you to do breathing exercises because the U.S. government doesn’t give a f*** about you." Her comments reflect a broader frustration with the systemic failures in addressing soldiers' mental health after deployment.

Khalifa continued her sharp critique, claiming that soldiers are seen as "disposable" once their service is complete. She further added, "I hope you go over there and get your little brain all scrambled up with PTSD and then come back here and see how much the United States cares about you, pookie."

Anti-war sentiments as U.S. troops deploy to middle east

Though Khalifa did not explicitly reference the recent U.S. military deployments to the Middle East, her comments are consistent with her broader anti-war stance. Amid escalating violence between Israel and Palestinian forces in Gaza and Lebanon, Khalifa has been vocal in her support for Palestinian resistance.

Her past remarks have often drawn controversy, including her praise of Palestinian fighters as "freedom fighters." In an interview with The New York Times, she clarified that she views their struggle as one for liberation, drawing parallels to the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Fallout from controversial political statements

Khalifa’s political views have come with professional consequences. Playboy severed ties with her in October following remarks she made after Hamas's surprise attack on Israel. The company stated that they could not support her stance, which they found offensive amid the ongoing violence in the region.

In defense of her statements, Khalifa told that her views are anti-Zionist rather than anti-Israel, and that the imagery from the recent conflict reminded her of "symbolic" historical moments, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall.
