Islamabad: Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan may see his release from jail as early as next month, as per insider sources revealing a negotiated agreement between Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and the Pakistan Army. The deal as reported by Dainik Bhaskar, was sealed during an Iftar gathering, involved Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Ali Amin representing Imran Khan, finalizing terms with the Army Corps Commander in Peshawar.

Key terms of the secret deal

Under the terms, Imran Khan is expected to transition from incarceration to house arrest initially. A senior PTI leader, present at the Iftar event, disclosed that the Army Chief Asim Munir appointed the Corps Commander to engage in discussions.

A pivotal stipulation of the agreement entails Imran refraining from making public statements against the army institution. While criticism against specific officers may be permissible, direct targeting of the Army Chief is prohibited.

Imran, Bushra to get bail in Toshakhana case

Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Begum, are anticipated to receive bail in the ongoing 14-year Toshakhana case, followed by potential bail in the 10-year sentence case related to the theft of secret documents. However, proceedings in the Al Qadir land grabbing case against Imran will continue, with a warning that any breach of the agreement could lead to reinstatement of incarceration in the Al Qadir case.

Proceedings could end like Nawaz Sharif

Political analyst Mazhar observes a trend in Pakistani politics where the expeditious registration of cases against politicians often results in swift closures. This phenomenon, witnessed in the case of Nawaz Sharif, could similarly expedite proceedings for Imran Khan.

Furthermore, PTI has secured authorization to reconstitute its core committee, positioning itself for future political maneuvers, potentially countering the current Shahbaz government.

Imran Khan's legal woes stand as of now

Imran Khan has been incarcerated in Pakistan for the past eight months. Initially sentenced to three years in the Toshakhana case, he faced additional convictions just before the February elections, amounting to a cumulative 31-year imprisonment across three cases, including Toshakhana, secret letter theft, and an alleged illegal marriage with Bushra.

The potential release of Imran Khan marks a significant development in Pakistani politics, reshaping power dynamics and signaling possible shifts in the country's political landscape.
