One of the signally unbelievable records set in 2013 is the longest kiss ever recorded in Vienna. The love birds first met at the Valentine party in Pattaya, Thailand, and kissed uninterrupted for 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds. A few days back, they announced their breakup, thus touching nostalgic spots for the fans of their legendary feat.

Record-breaking kiss

At a "kissathon" held by Ripley's Believe It or Not!, the February kissing contest was the longest in kissing record history. Beat out by Ekkachai and Laksana were eight more couples, after simply surviving to two and one-half days of sheer kissing. It was a closely controlled contest: the couples couldn't break a kiss on even bathroom breaks. Couples performed ardently to win a cash prize of up to 100,000 baht and two diamond engagement rings each worth 100,000 baht.

This was not the first time they aspired to make history. In 2011, they attempted the same record and lasted for 46 hours and 24 minutes. They stood for love and determination, and the world was touched.

The deactivation of the record

In 2023, Guinness World Records stated that it suspended the longest kiss category on account of safety. The intensely competitive nature of such a contest brought in health hazards such as loss of sleep and fatigue. In its place, Guinness introduced the longest kissing marathon wherein rest periods are permitted for a while to maintain good health on the part of the participants.
