Controversial Posts on PM Modi's Lakshadweep Visit

The controversy erupted after a Maldivian deputy minister and other government officials shared derogatory posts about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Lakshadweep. PM Modi's visit on January 2, where he engaged in activities like snorkelling, attracted attention on social media.

In a now-deleted post, Maldivian Deputy Minister of Youth Empowerment, Shiuna, made mocking and disrespectful references to PM Modi's Lakshadweep visit, including featuring images of the Indian Prime Minister during the trip.

International Outcry and Film Fraternity Support

The derogatory remarks triggered widespread condemnation, with a section of India's film fraternity expressing solidarity with PM Modi and criticising the offensive comments by Maldivian leaders. They also endorsed PM Modi's call for promoting beach tourism in Lakshadweep.

PM Modi, in a series of posts on social media, shared pictures of Lakshadweep's beauty and his experiences during the visit. He also laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 1,150 crore in Agatti, further enhancing ties between India and the picturesque archipelago.

This incident highlights the importance of maintaining diplomatic decorum in public discourse, especially among nations with historical ties, and the significance of responsible communication in the age of social media.
