International News: A tragic shooting incident at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday afternoon caused widespread panic across the campus. Authorities responded promptly and successfully captured the suspect shortly after the gunfire broke out. The incident occurred in the early afternoon at FSU’s Student Union building, a popular spot for students and staff. As soon as the sound of gunshots was heard, fear spread rapidly among those present. The university was immediately placed under lockdown, and all individuals on campus were instructed to seek shelter in safe locations. Following the shooting, all university classes and scheduled events were cancelled for the day.

Casualties and Injuries Reported

According to the latest reports, two individuals lost their lives in the shooting. Additionally, five others sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The identities of the victims have not been released yet, and their families are being contacted.

Suspect Identified as a Fellow Student

The individual in custody has been identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Eikner, who is currently enrolled as a student at Florida State University. He has also previously been involved with the department’s youth advisory board, which makes the case all the more concerning.

Weapon Brought from Home

Police have stated that the firearm used in the attack belonged to Phoenix’s mother. He reportedly brought the weapon from home, bypassing campus security. A handgun was recovered from the scene, although officials are still trying to determine whether another firearm was used during the attack. Eyewitnesses claimed that the suspect may have initially carried a rifle-like weapon before switching to a pistol.

Ongoing Investigation Into Motive

Law enforcement agencies are now working to uncover the motive behind this violent act. Investigators are examining the suspect’s background, social media activity, and any previous behavioral issues to understand what might have triggered the attack.

History of Campus Shootings in the U.S.

This incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of college campuses in the U.S. In 2007, Virginia Tech witnessed one of the deadliest campus shootings, with 32 fatalities. Now, the Florida State University community is reeling from shock and sorrow as authorities investigate the situation and take steps to safeguard students and staff in the future."
