Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, on Monday issued a warning to passengers, urging them not to fly on Air India flights from November 1 to 19, 2024, citing a potential attack during this time. This threat coincides with the 40th anniversary of the 1984 Sikh genocide.

In a viral video, Pannun can be seen making open threats to travellers. This comes amidst the growing controversy surrounding ex-RAW officer Vikash Yadav, whom US prosecutors have named as a co-conspirator in an alleged plot to assassinate Pannun.

Pannun’s threat and its implications

Pannun, a dual citizen of Canada and the US, leads the banned group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which seeks a separate Sikh state. He had issued similar threats around the same time last year. This latest threat surfaces amid a series of hoax bomb alerts that have recently targeted Indian airlines, adding further strain to the tense diplomatic standoff between India and Canada.

History of threats and legal actions

Last year in November 2023, Pannun warned that Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport would be closed and renamed on November 19, also advising against flying Air India on that day. As a result, Pannun has been charged by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for criminal conspiracy and promoting enmity based on religion, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

He has a history of making threats, including one in December 2023, when he threatened to attack India’s Parliament on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terrorist attack. He has also made threats against Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Pannun and Vikash Yadav plot allegations

On October 17, 2024, US prosecutors charged ex-RAW officer Vikash Yadav, accusing him of plotting to kill Pannun. Yadav, also involved in a prior extortion case, is facing charges of murder-for-hire and money laundering. New Delhi has strongly denied these accusations.
