Five people were killed and numerous others were injured on Friday after a pallet crashed into a group of residents waiting for food north of Gaza City's Shati refugee camp after a humanitarian airdrop's parachute failed to open, according to the sources.

After the incident on Friday, the media office for the Gaza administration confirmed the number of casualties, criticizing the "useless" airdrops as "flashy propaganda rather than humanitarian service" and arguing in favor of food being able to cross land borders.

According to the eyewitnesses, the incident happened at around 11:30 AM (local time). The exact age of the people killed and injured is not known, reportedly they all were between 30 to 50 years.

The United States, Jordan, Egypt, France, the Netherlands and Belgium in an attempt to deliver supplies to the residents amid an ever-worsening human crisis deployed the aid over Gaza on Friday.

However, the US Central Command has claimed that their airdrops are not responsible for the fatalities on the ground but also added that further investigation is needed.

The airdrops have been criticized by the international aid agencies and other relief agencies as together are insufficient to meet the needs of people.

The Food scarcity has been attributed, as it has been under Israeli siege and attack since October 7. Over 30,000 people have perished in the Gaza Strip during the five-month conflict, according to health officials there.
