In a tragic incident reported from Indonesia where at least 15 people got killed as a ferry capsized on Sulawesi Island. According to the sources, the ferry was carrying 40 people when the incident occurred at midnight (16:00 GMT). 19 people are still missing. The cause of sinking is still unclear.

Sources confirmed that the incident happened while the ferry was crossing a bay on Muna Island, situated about 200 km (124 miles) south of Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi province.

According to the agencies, six people have been rescued and are being treated at the hospital. The local search head informed the agencies that the search operation will be conducted by dividing two teams. The first team will dive around the accident site and the second team will conduct a sweep above the water around the accident site using a rubber boat and longboat.

The rescue operations are still on and further details are awaited.

It is to be noted here that Indonesia is the biggest archipelago in the world with more than 17,000 islands, ferry accidents are not unusual.

In the incident that happened back in 2018, over 192 persons got perished which sank in Lake Toba on the island of Sumatra. Moreover, a ferry carrying 800 people got sunk in May last year outside the province of East Nusa Tenggara.
