New Delhi: Former BBC news presenter Huw Edwards has pled guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. Edwards, a familiar face on British television for over two decades, admitted to the crimes on Wednesday. Huw Edwards, 62, resigned from the BBC in April, citing "medical advice."

The resignation came just months before he pled guilty to crimes committed between December 2020 and April 2022. Edwards, once the highest-paid news presenter at the BBC, had anchored the 'BBC News at Ten' bulletin.

Shocking revelations in documents

Court documents reveal that Edwards was charged with three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child. These charges relate to images found on a child's phone and shared via a WhatsApp chat. A London police spokesperson stated, "The offenses, which are alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022, relate to images shared on a WhatsApp chat." Edwards was arrested on November 8, 2023, and charged on June 26 following authorization from the Crown Prosecution Service.

Legal defense

According to a report by AP, Edwards' lawyer asserted that Edwards "did not keep any images, did not send any to anyone else, and did not and has not sought similar images from anywhere else." Despite these claims, Edwards pled guilty to the charges.

Huw Edwards had been a prominent figure at the BBC, leading coverage of major events in the UK. However, his career took a drastic turn when allegations surfaced that he had paid a young person thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photographs. This scandal led to his resignation, with Edwards citing health reasons for his departure.
